What creates the need for MEP coordination process?
In traditional design-build methods architects hires an engineering design consultant to design major systems in the building. The system includes HVAC (dry & wet), plumbing (gravity & pressure driven systems), electrical and piping. The general contractors use schematic design drawings to build and install the systems. These schematic drawings are not detailed enough and it becomes for the contractor to coordinate with different systems which in result causes errors and design conflicts. This is where a MEP BIM coordination comes in scene and helps the on-site contractors to overcome these errors and conflicts at initial design stage itself.
